Wellness has gained a lot of press over the last decade and there has been so much confusion as well. It can get so confusing, that you don't do anything to help your future health. So exactly what should a person do? Remember the wellness you should desire can be achieved easier than you think.

Well, where are you in life? Are you young or old, male or female, sick or relatively healthy? Of course all you have to do is really start doing right or better things. If you have an emergency medical need, that must be taken care of first.

Realize that doing wrong things for a long time does have an adverse effect. We eat the wrong stuff, do not drink enough water, do not engage in enough activity, and yet push ourselves too much which causes us to deal with too much physical and mental stress.

For the average person, the wellness you should desire makes you feel more energy, have better sleep, digest better and just have a feeling of well being. These are not things that can be measured many times but you know the improvements.

Simply do things that get your body working better. Here's how. Think of your health as coming from five different things in your life. Each thing is represented as a spoke of a wheel. Each spoke must function properly or the wheel does not operate correctly.

Really, the wellness you should desire involves these five things:

The first thing is PROPER EXERCISE. Think of a casted arm or leg. After 6 weeks the arm or leg shrinks or gets smaller. Use it or lose it. There should be cardiovascular or aerobic exercise after you are medically cleared. Strength training can be very beneficial as well after you are medically cleared.

Stretching and strengthening the back and neck is essential to continued health as well. You need an individualized exercise program.

The next thing is PROPER NUTRITION. You are what you eat. The word DEATH has EAT in the middle of it. Isn't that ironic? C. Everett Coop, MD indicated that the degenerative diseases we see today are caused by what we eat. He was the Surgeon General under President Reagan.

We are an overweight society that eats too much junk food. We YO-YO diet our way into discouragement. Phase I in a Wellness Class is getting off the 3 bad whites: white sugar, white flour and salt. They are at the root of bad metabolism,bad sleep many times and various resultant diseases.

The third thing is PROPER REST. Do not be a stomach sleeper. Sleep on either side and have the gap between your shoulder and neck filled with a good pillow and have it feel comfortable. Get advice on a good mattress. Sit properly and get some advice with some inexpensive fixes to sit comfortably for extended periods.

The fourth thing is a POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE. Attitude does play a major role in our lives and can even affect healing. If you work on health and feel better your attitude will likely improve.

The last thing is a PROPER NERVE SUPPLY. What happens if you were a difficult birth? What happens if you fell from your bike when you were a kid?
